What gives, CP?

By August 31, 2009#Life

I find it strange that though I can not say Circus Peanuts have changed at all since I was a kid (and I LOVED them!), but now they seem completely disgusting to me.  They smell the same, look the same, taste the same, and tempt me to eat them just as they ever did.  But when I put one in my mouth a few minutes ago -unable to say the taste had actually changed- I was stunned to realize they’re horrible.  They’re exactly as I remember them, except that I used to like them.

With this epiphany I fear what I will discover if I ever give the wax bottles of coke another try, or candy cigarettes (anyone else get in trouble for pretending they were real?), or… Pop Rocks.  Perhaps I should have learned my lesson and stopped after being disillusioned by Spaghettio’s (a real treat when I was a kid).  I mean, what’s next –Tang?  God forbid.  Where does the madness end?  (P.S.  Anyone had Tang lately?  What’s your take? -Wait, nevermind, don’t tell me.  I’m afraid of knowing.)

    P.S. (I think you’re a great writer) 😉

  • Jill says:

Thanks guys, about the writing (grr). 😉
I think I just inspired my brother Douglas to EAT Circus Peanuts, which was not at all my goal, but I hope it goes better for him than it did for me. And Douglas- I think you’re right, the wax bottles were barely good when we were kids, so I won’t be going back to them, but maybe the wax lips… 😀

Are those the orange creamy things shaped like a peanut? We used to eat the ones that were different colors. My favorite was pink. I actually considered purchasing a bag recently.

  • Jill says:

Hey Mom Reed! Yeah, the peanut shaped orange candy… I had no idea they had different colors. That’s pretty cool. What did the pink ones taste like?

  • Mama says:

I always thought they were disgusting and could never figure out why you kids liked them! yuk!! Glad your sense of taste has brought you to your senses!

  • Jill says:

Mama, I don’t know what it was about them but they were SO good (I thought). It’s so alarming to discover I may not have had a very distinguished palate as a child… :/ (Ha ha!)

agreed, circus peanuts have changed for me.

  • Shane says:

I had some tang at the clinic recently…I guess all the lydocaine shots they gave me put me in some form of shock or something. I was all dizzy, and they had me lay down & served me tang. They said I could leave once my lips turned the right color. hehe

  • Shane says:

Oops…forgot to tell you…It was really yummy. 🙂

  • Jill says:

Shane, I’m taking your word for it that the Tang was good. Still too afraid to try it!
Ben, isn’t it kind of sad?
