Tag on to Matt’s “Cold or Hot Water Cycle?”

Matt laughed a few weeks ago when (after finding out about the squirrels that got into our back stairwell and basement -through the attic of all things), I stated that I would not be doing the laundry any time soon. In case you don't know, I had a horrible encounter with a squirrel when I was a teenager, and am…

Cold or Hot Water Cycle?

I went to wash a couple loads of laundry today in our basement.  I opened the top lid and there was a squirrel inside!  I slammed the lid shut and called our landlord.  I'm not at liberty to finish this story for legal purposes.  =)

Borders

Today we were at Borders purchasing a book.  The guy helping us told us the total and I turned to see Jill with her library card in hand.  That's when you remember the phrase, "The worst they could say is no".

Remember?

Remember how it used to be nice and warm out, and you could smell grass and earth, and everything was so alive? Sometimes I like to look back and remember that things weren't always frozen and mucky (though -to give the snow credit- it can be very beautiful). I just thought you might like to remember too.

Two paths diverging in the wood…

Today Matt and I tried to jog (the sidewalks were just too slippery so we walked). We moved onto the bike path because it was less slick. It was funny to us when we passed a biker coming towards us who apparently found the sidewalk better than the bike path. We just sort of grinned stupidly as he rode by,…

Cocoa is Patti

At Family Camp (Lake Geneva) when I was a kid, there was a girl name Patti none of us kids liked.  (Usually I don't use names, but the story would make no sense without it, and Patti's a pretty general name...) She was kind of mean to the other kids, but was a clown named Cocoa for the kid's church…

Ferry to Liberty Island

When we were returning from the Statue of Liberty, the ferry docked and the waves pounded us against the dock.  It was almost like an amusement ride.

O Holy Night

Do you remember the last time you laughed so hard that you cried? If it's been a while, then you've got to listen to this version of O Holy Night. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse, it does.

Dear Santa

The kids I nanny for believe in Santa Clause. The other day they were playing and typed frantic letters to Santa on their parents' computer saying, "Santa, it's not safe to come yet. We'll let you know when it is!" In doing this they somehow restarted the computer and changed the wallpaper. Huh. Hope Santa got the message, though I…

Shout out to Pachick-a-chick

I've always liked how there are words or phrases that say one thing but sound like they could mean another. Like that time with Lonni Pachick-a-chick and Shannon in the Cote's kitchen (hm. Cote's Kithchen, sounds like a restaurant). Shannon said the word "appear." I thought she said "Up here." Lonni thought she meant "a pier." It was basically pretty awesome.

Surprise surprise!

WARNING: Must love adventure and trust the person surprising you. I don't know how most people feel about surprises, but I LOVE them. Granted there's always the awkwardness of knowing there's something awaiting you and you can only trust the person surprising you to know whether or not you'll like it. Matt surprised me for Christmas, and did he ever.…

New York, New York

Yesterday we just got back from New York City. We left early Friday morning and arrived at JFK around 10am. From there we took the subway to the World Trade Center site and then walked past Wall Street and jumped on the ferry to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty. From there we headed to Times Square and…

Let it Snow

Well, winter decided to wait until December 1st to arrive. It came in with a blast of 6 inches of snow. We've only had snow for a couple days now and I already got the car stuck in the snow and couldn't drive up a measly hill. The mounds of snow have begun to build in Target's parking lot. Is…

My Name in Vain

I was nannying yesterday and I heard the oldest girl, Madeline, telling her younger sister (Caroline) that if she didn't do something then Jill was going too... fill in the blank. As they played in their room I continued to hear them threaten each other with, "Jill says if you do this..." or "Jill won't like it if you..." They…

Do What Scares You

Tonight I'll be preaching at youth group and sharing about missions. The main portion of the message will be about Saul's conversion in Acts 9 and the role that Ananias played. It's the story of how missions began with ONE mission: Ananias going to meet Saul to deliver God's message... he did what scared him. I'm opening with this clip:

Halloween

As you can see, we once again had a strong showing at our place in Minneapolis. It looks like its a little down from last year (I could swear we had over 100 in '06), but over 50 people is pretty decent. Jill says that we have a reputation to keep, so we bought a ton of candy from Target…

San Diego Fires

Here is a story from my mom of my family's experience so far from the Southern California fires: Sunday dawned a beautiful morning and it was pleasantly warm as we stepped out of church around noon. We decided to visit a large church in the evening and had dinner out in Old Town. When Beth (our daughter) left us out…

Youtube

Jill and I recently got new cellphones.  We are able to shoot quick videos and post them to our Youtube account.  If we're out and about and see something fun, we'll post it online.  So we added another page to our site called "Experience".  Here you'll see our latest Youtube videos.

The Latest

We've been extremely busy as of late.  The nursing program keeps Jill's time occupied full-time at school, at clinicals, and studying.  She also continues to nanny part-time for a wonderful family in Edina.  I have recently taken on more responsibility at work as I now coordinate each summer's  short-term missions trips.  We also have our annual youth convention approaching with…

Or a fig leaf

Odd as it may seem, this painting is part of a mural in a church -the identity of which I will not disclose- that Matt and I visited. This mural was painted for the children's church. There aren't words that quite capture my thoughts or feelings regarding it, and will simply allow you- the reader- to have your own thoughts…

Jean A’dair Conti Breit 1928-2007

My Grandma, who I loved so much -and still love- died on Friday morning (September 14). She was spunky and fun and full of life. All of us will miss her so much. We stayed in Grandma's house, and I can't tell you the feeling of sadness it gave me not to have her greet me at the door, or…

NINTENDO!

I just found an awesome website, vNES. It has a collection of 599 original Nintendo games. Do you remember Contra? Metroid? Tecmo Bowl? Castlevania? Mega Man? It's all there. It loads quickly and plays smooth. The controls are a little hard to get used to because they're reversed, but you get used to it. Oh, and if you're playing Contra...…
