Most Famous!!

Congratulations to Jill, who has become the most famous "Jill Reed" in the world!  Plug her name into a Google or Yahoo Search Engine and she comes out on top! Here's to you, Jill!  A testament to your hard work and determination to beat out the many doctors, lawyers, and other Jill Reed wanna-be's out there.  You're swell!

Snacktime

My favorite snack has become Ritz crackers and raw baby-carrots.  First you have to eat a Ritz Cracker, and then pop a couple carrots in your mouth.  For some reason, it's a sweet combination of tastes.  I suggest Baby Sweet Supreme Carrots.  They taste the best.

Chim-chim-in-ey

I'm afraid to even admit this but... last night for the first time in my life I consciously realized the "Chim-chim-in-ey" part of Bert's Chimney sweep song in Mary Poppins was actually saying "chimney." I'd never thought about it before (that I can remember anyway), and as a child had just assumed that it was another funny word, like "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."…

Apparently our church is trying a new trick to keep people from leaving early.  Thank God we arrived late.

The other Night

My dad used to quote this poem when I was younger. I don't know where he got it, but I always loved it. "The other night upon the stair I saw a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today Gee I wish he'd go away."

Medisin

Okay, so here's something interesting I've been learning in the hospitals I've worked in. Medicine and Ministry are a lot alike. We're taught, in the medical field, how absolutely important cleanliness and sterility are. We're taught how the body works and how to teach others to keep theirs working in the best health they can. We strive to help others…

Indiana Jones

Hard to believe, but it was 18 years ago when my Dad took me to see the last Indiana Jones movie. The Last Crusade, after all, was the perfect father/son movie at that time (quickly replaced by Saving Private Ryan - which I also remember seeing with my Dad and both of us in tears coming out of the theater).…

What goes around…

I led worship at a youth group last night and volunteered to participate in a game. It was the same game I happened to make students play years ago at a Fall Retreat. Now I found myself in their shoes (although to our credit, Jill and I would never do a game that we ourselves were not willing to play…

New Bridge

The new I-35 bridge is on pace to open at the end of this year. Driving by it everyday is both fascinating and frustrating. It's amazing to see the 'round the clock effort to build the bridge and the visible progress on a daily basis. The frustrating part is alternative routes offered to fill the void. There's a bridge by…

Sluggish Internet?

We've had high-speed internet through Comcast cable for the last couple of years.  Lately our internet seemed REALLY slow.  I ran a speed test through www.speedtest.net and we were getting low-end dsl speed (about 1.5mb per second).  I did a little research and discovered our cable modem (which we've been renting for $3 a mo. from Comcast) was about 7-8…

Photo Booth

Yes I know this is really dumb. We got a new computer with a webcam. It took 4 consecutive pictures of me. I'm in bed and I can't sleep.

Beth and I

We went to TGIFridays tonight after church for a birthday dinner for me with our friends. We happened to have two servers because we caught one on the tail end of their shift. When each of the servers was informed on separate occasions that the get-together was for my birthday, they asked how old I was. They were both startled…

Power Drain

................................. As a teleporter, I can only assume my power has drained and that's why I'm unable to repeat my lucky performance from December, when -as you may recall- I teleported from my living room to Times Square.  If I had my full powers, I'd go to Hawaii I think...  Instead, on my limited power, I appear only to…

Johan Santana

I must admit that I don't follow sports as much as I used to. I couldn't tell you the last five superbowl champions or the last three stanley cup winners, and every year I have no clue who to choose for the NCAA tournament. There's really only one team I've followed closely the last five years (with the exception of…

For the birds

Have you ever been driving on a highway and had a pair of birds zoom right in front of your car just barely missing being hit? Well, for the first time ever last July, one didn't make it.

The Daydreamer

Okay, the night we were stuck in New York at JFK, I couldn't really sleep. The book store opened at about 5 or 6 in the morning and I bought a book to stave off the insane boredom I'd been experiencing (which led to the taking of about 100 pictures of nothing and everything). I'm sometimes nervous to just pick…

Counting the Days

Only five days to go! The Winter Carnival is soon approaching, and we're eagerly awaiting the first clue to be printed in the St. Paul Pioneer Press this Sunday -even though it's usually just a lame one that basically says the hunt for the medallion is beginning and isn't really a clue as to where to locate the medallion.  But…

That time again

Well, it's that lovely time again. I am back in school. I had a really nice Christmas break -or whatever they refer to it as. But now I'm back, and oddly enough, I'm a little excited! I'm taking things slower this semester, since I've heard there was a lot of disorganization in the third semester, so it should be taken…

Treasure Hunt

We are less than ten days away from the St. Paul Winter Carnival Treasure Hunt!! For nine of the last ten years, Jill and I have participated in the hunt. If you find the medallion and fulfill two other requirements (carnival registration and newspaper clue clippings) you will win $10,000. We have been incredibly close to finding the medallion. Last…

Life

We're just about full swing into the new year's busy pace. I started work last week in the office last week and this past week we were at a retreat in Central Minnesota for 3 days before getting back and leading worship at church on Wednesday. Jill begins school and nannying next week. (more…)

Time Slows Down

Jill and I have been consistently running the last few weeks. We've learned to layer and have been able to run through the cold and snow. One thing I've noticed throughout the last couple of weeks is how much time seems to slow down when you spend an hour outside. It would seem like adding another hour into an already…

Squirrat.

Now that we're on the squirrel topic, I'd like to just say that all they are are overgrown rats with bushy tails. I got this picture off of the internet and its title is "squirrel silhouette." I don't see much difference between this and a rat. It shouldn't be called a squirrel, it should be called a squirrel-rat... squirrat.
