Fox News Blues

By December 11, 2009#Life

Ok, first the disclaimer – This is NOT political commentary.  I’m not entering a left/right debate here.  This is an observation based simply on the content of foxnews.com and why it turns me off. I am a website snob both creatively and ethically.  As an amateur web designer, I avoid ugly and overly busy websites.  I also try to avoid websites with questionable content.  And sadly for those two reasons, foxnews.com gives me the blues.  Visually the site is displeasing, cluttered with multiple fonts, sizes, styles and an awful myspace-esque advertisement header.

My second (and major) complaint is with the content itself, and again I’m not talking about political slants or opinions. On any given day, scroll down below the headlines on the front page and you’ll see a section titled “Features and Faces”. There you will find thumbnails and headlines that almost always have a handful of inappropriate material. It’s trashy slideshows, celebrity gossip, and sex studies. The sad thing is that on the right side of the website, you see “Most Read” and many times it’s these sensational stories that a majority of readers click on. That’s why foxnews is not my source of online news. There are plenty of other news sites out there that don’t highlight inappropriate material on their front page. And even if they do, they don’t create trashy thumbnails to advertise. Foxnews.com? Fail.

I was really surprised (as someone who never really goes on Fox news -or boring old ‘news’ websites -ha ha- to begin with). When I scrolled down it was all sideshow freak type stories and lots of ‘skin’. What’s up with that? 😛

No kidding. It wouldn’t be so bad, but they are always are on their high horse about how the world is going to hell in a hand basket because of no morals then they go into am much graphic detail as they can get away with to prove their point. Oh the hypocrisy! Sorry FOX News I like you but c’mon.
