Blown Speakers

By September 8, 2008#Life

We just had to pay to replace two blown speakers on portable sound systems we have at work.  Speakers are blown when someone turns the volume too loud for the speakers to handle.  Here’s my question…

Why don’t manufacturers just make the volume knob only go to the maximum point that the speakers can handle?  It’s absurd that we can turn the knob on a given system beyond what it can handle.  It would be like pushing the gas pedal on your car and having no top speed… it would just accelerate until it blew up.  Sounds like a conspiracy between speaker makers and volume knob makers to me.
